Yorkshire South offers an array of options when it comes to short breaks.  If cities and indulgence are your thing, Sheffield, with its fine dining, shopping and culture will be right up your street. Or if the outdoors and nature floats your boat, with the expansive Peak District and masses of outdoor attractions in the region, Yorkshire South offers a mutitude of options to suit your needs.

Whether you’re in search of relaxation or white-knuckle excitement, you’ll find it in the countryside of Yorkshire South. The great outdoors has never been this great – from exploring the Pennines or the Peaks to plunging into the deep waters of Rother Valley, there’s something for everyone.

For families, Yorkshire Wildlife Park offers a chance to get up close and personal with everyone’s favourite African desert creature, the meerkat, and at Tropical Butterfly House, Wildlife and Falconry Centre kids can encounter exotic creatures and marvel at
thrilling displays of bird flight.

Energetic hikes across rugged moorland or gentle strolls through country lanes and pretty villages start right on the doorstep of bustling Sheffield and other lively, historic towns. Wentworth Castle offers just one of an array of superb, lovingly tended historic gardens which are spread across the open countryside, while wildlife refuges such as Potteric Carr or the RSPB’s Old Moor are havens for spring flowers, summer butterflies and some of the rarest birds.

Across the region that encompasses Rotherham, Barnsley and Doncaster, as well as Sheffield, there is no better place to combine peace and quiet, high energy activity and inspiring sightseeing with a little bit of indulgence. Dramatic modern architecture in our cities contrasts with a centuries-old heritage that embraces medieval gems such as the evocative 12th-century ruins of Roche Abbey and Monk Bretton, the imposing ramparts of Conisbrough Castle, relics of the Industrial Revolution at Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet and more than 60 years of aviation and transport history at Aeroventure, near Doncaster.
