Darcy House opens in style

The Mayor of Rotherham has officially opened Aston Hall Hotel's latest development, Darcy House, in style.

The new luxury development which has been built in the grounds of the leading South Yorkshire hotel is the first completed phase of the hotel's major expansion, with the second phase to open in July.

The Mayor and Mayoress, Councillor Alan Jackson and Mrs Yvonne Jackson, celebrated the opening with invited guests at a champagne reception. They were treated to a guided tour of Darcy House by hotel manager Craig Squelch.

The red brick Victorian building called Darcy House holds six en-suite bedrooms. The building has been completely renovated and has a magnificent glass roof which has been fully restored and spans the length of the building. Huge windows that stretch from the ground to first floor level have been introduced into the original recesses of the building creating light and individual room spaces.

Darcy House takes its name from Lord Darcy who lived at Aston Hall from 1545. The Darcy's remained at Aston Hall for two centuries and the rooms have been named after the family names of Darcy wives - Tempest, Melton, Belasis, Marwood, Wyvil and Napier.

The room designs have been inspired by the grand country house of the Darcy family. Colours and fabrics are opulent and decadent. Rich purples mixed with silvers and bronze in velvets and silks. There are wow pieces of furniture like the traditional buttoned sofa but made in silver leather to give a modern twist. Rooms all have flat screen LCD TVs with integrated DVDs, controlled mood lighting and internet connection.

The second phase of the hotel's expansion, which is due to open in July, incorporates an additional 29 bedrooms, two new meeting rooms and a fully fitted gymnasium. The total number of bedrooms at the hotel will then increase to 52. The hotel will remain open throughout the expansion.

The Mayor of Rotherham said: "Darcy House is a fantastic addition to Aston Hall Hotel and I was delighted to be asked to officially open it.

"To have one of the region's leading luxury hotels in Rotherham is a great boost for the local tourism and leisure industry.  I look forward to seeing the completion of the second phase of the expansion in the summer.

Craig Squelch, General Manager at Aston Hall Hotel, added: "Darcy House looks fantastic and is decorated to the highest standard, in keeping with the hotel's contemporary feel. We are very much looking forward to guests enjoying the Darcy House experience."
