Economic summit to be held in Sheffield for second year running

Thursday 19 June 2008 will see Sheffield City Hall host ‘RE: Inventing the City -The International Business and Economy Summit 2008''. The summit returns, with a new name, new speaker line-up, and a new venue following a highly successful inaugural event last year.

Last year's first ever Economic Summit proved to be a springboard for this year's Sheffield City Hall event, which has already secured the services of Greg Clark, a leading international facilitator on making cities and regions work, while guests will receive a morning keynote speech from Government Minister Yvette Cooper. Other guest speakers will include Steve Inch of Glasgow & Edinburgh Economic Development, Kelly Lee of Innovation Philadelphia, Scott Chapman of Melbourne City Council and Paolo Verri, Italia 150 - Turin. Tom Riordan, Chief Executive of Yorkshire Forward and Ian Bromley, Chief Executive of Creative Sheffield who both addressed the conference last year are returning to Sheffield for the 2008 event.

Emma France, Conference Manager for Yorkshire South Tourism, commented: "I am delighted that this very important summit will be held in Sheffield for the second year running and I am thrilled that speakers from all over the world are taking part in the event as well as visiting Sheffield. Yorkshire South as a region has recently been awarded ‘UK Best Destination' at International Confex which clearly demonstrates how far Sheffield and the wider region have developed the business tourism product in recent years as well as contributing significantly to the local economy. Events like this reinforce that message"

The morning conference theme will be centred on showcasing Sheffield's Economic Masterplan that will drive regeneration forward over the next 15 years, while the afternoon sessions will focus on the skills that underpin a modern city economy.
