More Awards Success for Yorkshire South

More Awards Success for Yorkshire South Yorkshire South won big at the first ever Yorkshire Business Insider Awards on Wednesday 12 March, following up from the recent triumph of scooping Best UK Destination 2008 at International Confex with two major awards for venues in the region.

Magna won large venue of the year in recognition of a succession of big wins that have seen the likes of HSBC, Asda and Argos use the venue for corporate events. Conference 21 was shortlisted in this category, and Magna itself was also shortlisted under the Best Corporate Hospitality and Unique Venue categories. In fact another Yorkshire South venue, Sedum House, was highly commended in the Unique Venue category. Sedum House is one of only 14 buildings in Yorkshire to be awarded the Excellent rating by the Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method.

Novotel Sheffield scooped Best Business Hotel of the Year; a category in which Holiday Inn, Rotherham-Sheffield, was also shortlisted. Novotel Sheffield was recently awarded four star status, and the location, meeting and conference facilities and standard of service make it first choice hotel for many business guests.

About Novotel's win, Peter Baber, editor of Yorkshire Business Insider, said, "With a strong showing of very satisfied customers and a clearly thought out business customer programme, the Novotel can really show it is far from being a standard chain hotel, and won over a strongly competitive list."

Also commended was Sheffield City Hall - shortlisted in the highly competitive category Team of the Year. This was in recognition of the standard and variety of events, and the impact of their 75th birthday celebrations.

Emma France, Business Tourism Manager of Yorkshire South Tourism, said, "It's wonderful that Yorkshire Business Insider and the panel have recognised the vital contribution of business tourism to the economy of the region and we are delighted that so many venues within Yorkshire South won or were shortlisted for awards. In such a competitive region, it demonstrates the outstanding product and commitment to quality within Yorkshire South, and we hope that these awards become a springboard for future success."

About the awards: Peter Baber, editor of Yorkshire Business Insider, said, "This was the first time we have run any awards for business tourism in this region, and the record number of entries we had for an inaugural event - 106 - proves the business tourism industry in Yorkshire is alive and kicking. It has really given us confidence to grow this event next year."

Yorkshire South supported the awards by sponsoring two categories: Small Venue of the Year and Best Business Hotel.
